Research Your Charities

August 12, 2012

Hondo over at This Ain’t Hell reminds us to research charities before we open our wallets. Just because an organization has a nice-sounding name (like "Help Hospitalized Veterans") does not mean, necessarily, that they’re doing what we assume they’re doing with our donations.

Charity Navigator has a large database of charities they’ve rated. They give you their methodology so you can decide for yourself if you agree with the way they come up with ratings—and if you do like their methods, you can easily find charities that you think deserve your donations. This is a handy way to see what’s going on before we contribute.
